WOYWW Bits and Pieces

Seems like a lot of activity this week, without much to show for it.

Work continues on the back of the cushion for DD. I'll hopefully finish it to give her next week, for Easter, and will post a pic then.

Meanwhile, the saga of Mum moving upstairs continues. I'm doing it a bit at a time, partly to help her adjust to the idea, but also because I haven't the energy I used to have, and there's lots of swapping furniture over, etc. Yesterday I brought down the contents of her wardrobe, and today DH and I shifted her dressing table and contents. Tomorrow will be the biggy - a bed settee to go up, and her bed to come down - not looking forward to that bit! At least it will all be finished then, and I can get to the  fun bit of putting the craft/guest room together.

The other WIP - a friend has just learned to crochet, and wanted to make a blanket for a boy she sponsors in a Ugandan orphanage. Looking at the pile of 'squares' ranging from 3" to about 7" and nary a right angle between them, I offered to help out, when she said she was just going to sew them together.

I've evened them up by putting white borders around, and have mixed and matched singles, half doubles and doubles, to end up with three sizes. I did re-do a couple that were too mis-shaped, and am quite pleased with the result.

I'm waiting for the next batch, and will then help her to assemble it when there are enough. She wants to back it with fabric.. I think it will look quite cute when finished, and I'm sure the little boy will be delighted with his pressie.

I'm looking forward to this afternoon, when DD2 is coming over (on hol from work this week) and bringing a DVD for us to watch while Mum has her rest.

Don't forget you make yourself a drink, put your feet up and meet all the other crafters over at Julia's place for WOYWW.

Hope your week is going well. Love for now xx

  1. Looks like you have up to all kinds of good Chrysalis. I'm sorry about the loss of your friend and the efforts moving your mum. The project you are assisting with is going to be so nice. A white border on anything is awesome and the fabric backing is great.

Have a good rest of the week!

  11. Hello Chris. I'm so glad I have found you. You kindly left a comment last week - but I couldn't work out who you were - glad to discover the fact!!
Thanks for visiting. Pleased you like the cards I had fun messing about with...
I see your talents are spread - have a go at most things - well done for putting together the squares for the blanket - I have the same issue with knitted "squares" for blankets for Uganda. Our church supports a school at Kyehimba www.pcmuk.org will tell you more about all we do. You are a carer, too. Take time for yourself or you will soon be exhausted.
    God bless.

  12. What a noble effort, rescuing all those eccentric crochet squares!! A real labour of love. I am sure the results will be stunning. It's amazing how a unifying border brings the whole thing together and gives it a professional look. As for moving your Mum, we know what that is like! It was a major operation clearing my parents' house last year and getting us all established under one roof - so much upheaval for Mum who's had the biggest change in her life in such a short space of time, losing her home, and Dad dying in December, and moving to an area she's not keen on, but at least we can look after her better with her in the annexe downstairs, and she seems more settled these days, even if grudging about her surroundings!

Looking forward to seeing DD's finished cushion.

Thanks for your lovely comment - nice to know there's another one like me out there, with at least half a dozen projects on the go at any one time! Mum always made me complete things before I went on to the next when I was little, but this can seriously affect the creative flow (or so I tell myself... in my heart of hearts I know it's just lack of self-discipline lol!). It's funny how the kitties go for the hubbies, isn't it. They have an uncanny knack of knowing who's the soft touch and whose heart is flint! They never waste time on me lol!!

    Happy WOYWW,

  16. aw, Chris, what a sterling thing to take on for your friend! The blankie sure has love in every stitch, huh! Great good luck and humour fork tomorrow's moving tasks, your mum will be very comfortable and so it will be worth it...keep telling yourself this as you stagger up and down the stairs!

  17. What a lot of very hard work you have taken on, but, I am sure, it will be worth it once it is done. Don't carry too much in one go and look after yourself. You are so right about the qualities of a good seaside blow. I didn't get much because it was so foggy but it did invigorate me. I must try to get to the sea again before the end of the summer. xx Maggie #28

  18. Thanks for the visit Chris. Your mum will be most pleased once you have it all sorted for her. Love the blanket..you are a good friend..I never ever help my friends out when they make sewing / crochet messes..mean right! I Sometimes wonder if my friends don't actually ever learn how to do things 'properly' so I can finish them off - ha ha. Cx #29

  21. Wow! What a good friend you are to re-do or fix all that crochet :) I'm yawning at the thought of it :) ! A friend asked me not long ago if I would be interested in fixing a VERY complicated fair isle jacket - started decades ago by her MIL, VERY fine thread and NO pattern! Guess what I said?
    Thanks for dropping by,
